iPod Classis 80GB not showing up in ...

I bought an iPod Classic about a year and a half ago and was not able to use it due to issues with my computer. a couple weeks ago, I got a new computer equipped with windows 7 and reinstalled iTunes on it and re-imported all my music back. no problem.

however, i recently tried to sync all my music onto my iPod classic which i bought a little over a year ago, and the device is not showing up in my iTunes whatsoever. I have tried restarting the computer, connecting the iPod to my computer a thousand times and it is still not working. When i connect it to the computer, a message comes up on my iPod saying "connected: eject before disconnecting" but nothing happens. i have a 64-bit version of iTunes installer, and have the latest updated version of iTunes.

i have tried almost everything and i cannot figure out why it is not showing up as a device in iTunes.

what can i do?
